I always find boxed sets a good way out new authors. Hunks to the Rescue has fifteen of the sexy guys and hot gals to sample. None of the authors in this set were familiar to me so it was a surprise each and every story. For example:
Coaching the Sub by Debbie White: 4 stars 5/28
This was not what I expected. The sub was actually a substitute teacher. She and the coach work together to deal with some trouble makers. Looking a little deeper they find there are some underlying reasons for the teen's actions. This was a great story line. The resolution seemed to be coming a bit fast. A couple of snags make it more realistic.
There were a few too many descriptions and step by step details for my taste while some readers may like that. One of the issues seemed a bit out of place although it was a common issue. The steam builds slowly, realistic for this couple. Overall a good story and a nice romance. A real feel-good-when-you're-finished story. Well worth the read.
Bound by Temptation by Trish McCallan 4 stars 5/29
Three nights of bliss followed by three months of misery. Emma had spent those three nights in the arms of her neighbor, Lucas. Then he'd just shut her out. No, “This just isn't going to work.” Not even a “Goodbye.” He wouldn't answer his phone but she got the message. She had no plans to ever see him again. Until, a home invasion prompted the investigating officer to let Lucas, his former SEAL buddy, know he didn't like the situation but couldn't do anything in his position except recommend she get a security system which she couldn't afford or a dog. You'll love her choice.
When Lucas showed up, she was not going to allow him to do anything for her. That is until she was grabbed in front of her house. He manages to stop them, however, Emma doesn't escape unscathed. She needs protection. He needs to be the one to do the protecting. Forced together their feelings reignite. Will they be able to overcome the fear that kept them apart? Will she escape the danger that still pursues her?
This was a good SEAL intrigue/romance. The conflict was pretty common, however, the characters were good and the one with fur is special. The steam would fog up a band of mirrors. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Come Hell or High Water by Nancy Segovia: 4stars
Maisy vowed never to be with another man “Come Hell Or High Water”, she'd finally escaped an abusive marriage and wanted to make a life for herself. Through all the bad times she had one constant, her cat, Daisy. Several years later, when the high water brought the hell of a hurricane she couldn't abandon Daisy and no one would take her. She decided to try to wait it out. Not so smart.
Dwight, her first responder, found her and Daisy. That was a major accomplishment. He couldn't understand her combative attitude. After delivering the smart-mouthed, bitchy woman to the shelter, he didn't like the situation. He did like the way she looked even freezing and soaking wet.
This is a short one and the instant love may be hard for some readers. I'm a romantic and enjoyed it in this short read. It's perfect if you only have a little time to read and love romance.
Falling For Captain Hunk by Stephanie Queens: 4 stars 5/29
Captain Hunk, or Cap to his friends, hadn't expected the big league bad guys on his island, nor did expect Tony. She was one gorgeous cop undercover to help capture the men who'd killed her cop fiance six months earlier. Cap knew he needed to ignore the attraction, she was not just gorgeous but had a sense of humor and just might feel a pull as well.
Tony was attracted and felt more than she had in a long time. Still, there was the no cops rule and he had some rule as well. No way would they mess this case up by getting personal. Sure they wouldn't.
Could they fight it or find it together? The assignment was dangerous. One they might come through, not both or either of them. He worried she wouldn't want to take a chance with another cop. She had secrets he needed to learn. Another hunk and this time a breathtaking female to the rescue. Just who rescues who?
Don't miss this deal of hunky rescuers.
