Synopsis

From the New Adult sensation and New York Times bestselling author of Until You

Madoc and Fallon. Two estranged teenagers playing games that push the boundaries between love and war…

She’s back.

For the three years she’s been away at boarding school, there was no word from her. Back when we lived in the same house, she used to cut me down during the day and then leave her door open for me at night.

I was stupid then, but now I’m ready to beat her at her own game…

I’m back.

Three years and I can tell he still wants me, even if he acts like he’s better than me.

But I won’t be scared away. Or pushed down. I’ll call his bluff and fight back. That’s what he wants, right? As long as I keep my guard up, he’ll never know how much he affects me….

~ Rival - Excerpt ~

Reaching around, he twisted my chin towards the mirror, and I sucked in a breath. “What do you see?!” he shouted.

“You and me!” I blurted out. “Madoc and Fallon!”

My heart was racing.

I looked at him through the mirror. I sat on one side of his lap, so he could see from the other side, and we stared at each other, my chest rising and falling more urgently.

“That’s not what I see,” he said in a low voice. “Those names mean nothing to me. They’re simple and empty. When I’m with you, I don’t see the daughter of a gold digging bitch and an Irish drug lord or the son of a crooked lawyer and a vegan Barbie.”

I almost wanted to laugh. Madoc had an ironic way of looking at the world. But he wasn’t smiling. He was scowling. He was dead serious, and I knew from experience that his genuine moments were few and far between.

He reached up, threading one hand into my hair while the other hand rested on the chair.

“I see everything I want for as long as I can have it,” he continued. “I see a woman that wears the cutest little scowl like she’s two years old and was just told she couldn’t have candy. I see a guy that went and got an apadravya piercing, because he wanted to live in her world for even a little while.”

I closed my eyes. Don’t do this to me, Madoc. Please.

~Donna's Thoughts~

“I closed my eyes. Just. One. More. Minute.”
Madoc Caruthers is an entitled rich kid who has never had to work for anything in his life. His parents are divorced; his mom remarried and moved out of state. His dad stays in the city most nights so Madoc has more or less been raised by the housekeeper. Jason Caruthers (his dad) also remarried and with that wife came a teenage daughter Fallon. Fallon and Madoc act like they cannot stand each other, but at night when the lights are out it is an entirely different story. That is until one night when Fallon disappears without a word to Madoc. Madoc is told that Fallon is afraid of him and Fallon is told that Madoc never cared. Both teens are angry and hurt. Will they ever learn the truth about what happened that night and the weeks that followed? Can you truly fall in love with “the one” at sixteen? All I can say is this book is a MUST read, but buckle up because it is a twisty, turnie and bumpy ride!
“I dwelled on the past, not realizing that it kept me from moving forward.”
My favorite authors are the ones that can spin a tale so magnificent that it sucks me in and holds on tight, not allowing me to put the book down until the end when I am left feeling distraught and abandoned, desperately wanting more. Penelope Douglas is one of those authors. I give this book 5 stars with 2.5 hands down the pants.
“I am the man.”

~Sas' Thoughts~

In bully we only got a glimpse of who Madoc Caruthers is, and I have to admit I didn't care for him at all. But after reading his story i'm happy to say I've gladly changed my mind.

Everyone sees the spoiled rich kid that never really has to work at getting what ever he wants. An for the most part this is true. But when his dad remarries Madoc not only gains a step mother he can't stand, he also gains a step sister, to which hes decides the make her life a living hell!! That is until one day the two Rivals become something so much more.

There's a saying.. 'theres a thin line between love and hate' and that so true for Madoc and Follan.
"stay out my way... hide out in the servants' quarters where you belong."
This is a love story unlike any other! although there were some scenes I thought was a bit drawn out, in the end it was all worth it!

Penelope Douglas has a gift for finding love where there was once so much hate... I give Rival 4.5 stars!!
I can't wait to read the next book in this series!!

btw.. i never knew a cryptex gift box actually existed... but now that i do im soo gonna by a few this Christmas!!
